Common mistakes – like or as

Common mistakes again! ‘Like’ or ‘as’? Many students get confused with these! What’s the difference?

We use like

  • – To ask for descriptions or information about something or someone. What’s it like living in the countryside?
  • – To say that something is similar or the same. “She looks like her mother.”
  • – To give an example. “Some cities, like Paris or London, are definitely worth visiting.”

We use as

  • – To make comparisons. “Roger is as tall as his father.”
  • – To describe a job or role. “I’m working as an intern at an engineering firm.”
